The Vulnerability: CVE-2025-59287, a critical-severity (CVSS score of 9.8\10) flaw in the WSUS Server Role.
Impact: Allows an unauthenticated attacker to execute remote code with SYSTEM privileges on a vulnerable server.
Identify vulnerable servers: Locate all servers with the WSUS Server Role enabled and ports 8530/8531 open to the internet.
Prioritize patching: Immediately apply the out-of-band security update released on October 24, 2025, to all affected servers.
Reboot: A reboot is necessary after the update is installed to complete the mitigation.
Mitigation: If you cannot patch immediately, consider disabling the WSUS role or blocking inbound traffic to ports 8530 and 8531 on the host firewall as a temporary measure.
